Accidentally up late nattering on about my past days in EverQuest 2, had to go spelunking for my screenshot folder and in the process found this one precious piece of artwork I ever did. Played an iksar, loved her, don’t remember why I made this but I’m glad I did.
Also really surprised by how not-terrible this is. The scales are like shading? But also texture?? What dark rituals did I perform to steal the skills to make this?! I forgive myself the cop-out clothing and background.
I almost want to scribble some more fan-art now, dang.
The thing about cover box characters is that you don’t ever see pictures of their rear (not leaving myself open to Rule 34 jokes, no sir), which leaves it open to artistic interpretation. With that in mind I put some more clothes on Firiona’s skinny white butt because seriously c’mon paladins are supposed to have an armor class in the positive integers and here she is all dressed up to attend Ranger Prom. Yes, it’s 2014 and I’m still making ‘rangers suck lol’ jokes.
Also pictured are two variants of Solusek Ro, with and without his cape. I much prefer without as it shows a lot more detail to his back armor than just a stupid 2D red… thing. ACNL has so many shades of yellow, orange, gray, pink, and blue but then has like two good shades of red.
Alright, here’s another stab at this robe. Working with black is tricky when you want to add shading and details, so here’s another version with the main color in total black and slightly more accents to the pink/purple. Also included is the EverQuest 2 version, I hope I didn’t bungle the backside too hard since I had to go by memory of the game’s robe designs and a front image from Allakhazam.
I do wish they didn’t automatically save in JPEG and make it all fuzzy and artifacty, it looks much better in-game.
And of course, what necromancer would look sufficiently evil without this not-quite-black Flowing Black Robe? Seriously, it’s the shade of gray next to black. Look at some screenshots if you don’t believe me. Way to go, Sony.
I’ll see what I can do about some EQ2 variants soon. I didn’t play it as much except I spent way too much time and energy pimping out my Halas mansion and getting rich off of farming Tinkerfest cogs and using my newfound wealth to buy fancy furniture and tons of pet mallards. Every single one was named Sergeant Quackers.
Here’s some love to the dark elves (the Neriak crest) and especially the humans of Freeport and Qeynos with a ragged-looking militia house sign and both guard outfits. It’s too bad we can’t customize pants too (maybe the next game?), but the scale armor pants work with most guard armor tops I’ve made.
